Roy Keane has returned to Nottingham Forest having agreed to become assistant to manager Martin O’Neill, the Championship club have confirmedKeane was offered the chance to return to the first English club he played for when O’Neill succeeded Aitor Karanka in the City Ground hot seat earlier this month, andhe has accepted the position.He reunites with O’Neill after the pair worked together with the Republic of Ireland between 2013 and 2018.According to The Guardian, Keane was debating whether to accept another assistant position or return to management himself, and is believed to have been convinced of becoming Forest’s No.2 after the club convinced him of their ambitions under Evangelos Marinakis, their owner. O’Neill made clear his desire for Keane to join Forest during his unveiling.He said earlier this month: “I would dearly like him [Keane] to join us.“Overall, he was great for me, and great for the [Ireland] players, and the genuine truth is that I dont think that we would have qualified for the Euros [Euro 2016] without his presence.
