Chelsea ‘facing transfer ban’ amid FIFA probe into more than 100 young players
Chelsea face a transfer ban if FIFA find them guilty of breaking regulations with regard to more than 100 foreign players under the age of 18.The Guardian report that world football’s governing body has overseen a long-running case against the club and they are now considering their final decision.2

Chelsea are under investigation by Fifa

The alleged rule they have broken relates tobringing in players under 18 from other counties.Initially some 25 deals were under scrutiny but the investigation has now been opened out to include more than 100 youngsters registered at the clubs academy.FIFA rules prevent clubS from bringing in any such player unless their parents have emigrated for reasons not connected to football or both player and club are located within 50km of a national border. Chelsea argue the majority of the 100-plus players involved were short-term triallists who were not signed.They are adamant they have fully complied with the rules in all instances.One of the key parts of FIFAs case is the signing of Burkino Faso attacking midfielder Bertrand Traore.2

Traore officially joined the club in January 2014 but played in a number of youth team games when he was 16.It has been claimed that Chelsea paid 154,000 to the players mother and a further 13,000 to his former club in Burkina Faso and FIFA are understood to believe the club paid his fees at Whitgift School in Croydon, where former Blues defender Colin Pates is head of football.The club declined to comment but did refer to their statement from last November in which they said they had fully cooperated with FIFA and provided comprehensive evidence demonstrating its compliance with the applicable FIFA regulations.
