“It all happened a year ago but I am feeling well now. It would be better not to write it but it wasn’t possible,” he said.“It was a part of my life that I had to live with bravery, and Ive learned something from it.“I hope my story can inspire people, who are at crucial intersections of their lives, and I hope mine is a book to keep on the bedside table so people can read one or two stories before falling asleep or in the morning as soon as they wake up,” he added in reference to a soon-to-be released autobiography.During a trophy-laden career in both Italy and England, the 54-year-old is fondly remembered for his time at Stamford Bridge where he won two FA Cups, the Cup Winners’ Cup and the League Cup in spells as both a player and manager.Vialli was Chelsea’s player/manager when they won the Cup Winners Cup in 19982

Feeling guilt, though, Vialli admitted his illness caused him to blame himself.“You feel shame, you feel like the whole situation is your fault.“I used to wear a sweater under my shirt so no-one noticed anything. I was still the person everyone knew.“I hope my story can help others, to deal with what’s happening in the right way.”Signed from Juventus in 1996 where he had just won the Champions League, it took Vialli just three Premier League games to get off the mark at Chelsea when he scored in a 2-0 victory against Coventry. In all he scored 40 goals in 88 games before assuming the role of player/manager in 1998. He retired from playing a year later and left his position in the Stamford Bridge dugout in 2000 and now works as a television pundit in Italy.Upon hearing the news of Vialli’s fight, Chelsea tweeted: “We love this guy. Best wishes from all of us at Chelsea to Gianluca Vialli. We’re all thinking of you, Luca.”
